Suggested Reading Material

A must for technical support people who must do large scale Windows 98 installations. A very detailed technical reference with 1766 pages of useful information. Topics include Deployment and Installation, System Configuration, Networking and Intranets, Internet and Communications Tools, System Management, and Architecture. There is greater detail on the Registry than the Windows 95 Resource Kit had. For those of you who are not involved with technical support, I would recommend either of the two books below.

This book is quite detailed and covers installation of software and hardware, customization of Windows 98, and how to use Windows 98 applications. While it does not cover installing Windows 98, a topic which I consider very important, it is an excellent resource for beginners. Given the level of detail and the organization, it will have the beginner working like an expert in no time. The book also includes a CDROM, which includes shareware applications, additional screen savers, and games. I was not very impressed by the CDROM, but I am glad that I purchased the book.

This book starts with preparing your computer for the installation of Windows 98. Hardware and software installation and configuration is explained in detail. It includes troubleshooting techniques throughout the book. You will find detailed instructions for using the new support applications for optimizing and troubleshooting Windows 98. New features are explained in detail. The CDROM included with the book is focused on the book's topic. This is an excellent resource for configuration and troubleshooting.
